Our vessel for the Early Harvest Olive Oil is a handcrafted ceramic urn with a 500 ml capacity. Made from clay found in the Western Cape, our vessel design was inspired by the earliest forms of olive oil storage and transportation whereby Roman potter's moulded large amphorae from indigenous materials. The potter's hands and the unpredictability of the kiln means that no two vessels are the same, a perfect metaphor for the olive harvest from year to year. Our vessel is inherently recyclable and we invite recipients to return their vessels to us for refilling or to make use of the urn in other creative applications. Our air-tight seal is crafted from hand-turned wild South African Olive Wood (Olea Europeae sub sp. Africana) and has intrinsic antibacterial properties. Finally, each bottle is sealed with locally-sourced organic beeswax infused with propolis, creating a perfumed seal with both aromatic and anti-microbial properties. Each harvest is digitally-annotated, via a unique QR Code, with the name of the Oleologist, Geographical Origin and Conditions at the time of harvest as well as a detailed Chemical Analysis, Organoleptic Description and Food-Pairing guidance.
